Inside a Modern Ghanaian Wedding Tablescape
How we build a reception table that feels generous without feeling crowded.
A tablescape is architecture at small scale. It has structure, rhythm and negative space.
We build in three layers. The base layer is linen and light — the colour of the cloth decides half the palette. The second layer is the floral runner, kept deliberately low so conversation crosses the table uninterrupted. The third layer is candlelight at three different heights, which is what makes a room feel warm rather than lit.
Local texture matters. Woven detail, hand-thrown ceramics and dried grasses ground an ivory palette in place, so the table reads as Accra rather than anywhere.
The final test is simple: sit down at it. If you cannot see the person opposite you, something has to come down.
